Fishing in Pyrénées2vallées

Pêche Neste Pyrénées 65

Fish in the Neste or in the Néouvielle reserve

Pyrénées2vallées is an exceptional natural setting for fishing: in the Nestes rivers from Saint-Lary to Sarrancolin, in the lake in Génos and in the Néouvielle nature reserve. Here, in the heart of the upper Pyrenees, trout is queen. Fish for all types of salmonids (char, rainbow and fario trout, salmon) and many other species. Whatever your fishing level, you will find what you are looking for: competitions are organised in Arreau while beginners can learn at the Saoussas mill or in Saint-Lary-Soulan. Fishing in the region is open from March to mid-September.

Arreau, at the confluence of the Nestes

The Neste d'Aure and the Neste du Louron rivers say yes to each other in Arreau. This pretty medieval village in the lower Aure valley is a real paradise for fishermen, beginners or professionals. The "fly fishermen" are fond of the no-kill area upstream of Arreau. On 350m of river, you can enjoy the exceptional fishing conditions that attract fishermen from all over the region: a high density of fish, clear waters and unspoilt nature. What more could you ask for? For professionals, Arreau is the scene of two major annual competitions. In mid-summer, the best fishermen come from far and wide to participate in the World Trout Fishing Championships. They clashed for a whole weekend on the banks of the Neste, with only a telescopic rod and a box of natural bait as their weapons. In April, the French Federation of Sport Fishing (FFPS) organizes the French trout fishing championships with lures. On this occasion, the Amicale des pêcheurs des Deux Nestes association presents its daily actions to preserve this natural setting and its very precious waters. Come and admire these champions and participate in demonstrations and activities for the general public.

Mix fishing and hiking in the Néouvielle reserve

You probably know the Néouvielle national nature reserve for its magical hikes at high altitude. Its many mountain lakes await you for a relaxing fishing session. Near pine forests and granite peaks, feet in clear water, fresh air full of lungs, enter into communion with nature. You can even spend the night near the lakes in the bivouac areas set up in Aubert and Orédon. Be careful, fishing in the reserve is regulated, the opening is later than in the valley.

The Louron valley, a unique lake for fishing

In the centre of the Louron valley awaits you the immense lake of Génos-Loudenvielle, a large body of water of 32ha with a maximum depth of 6m. Difficult to miss! By boat or from its shores, fish for Pyrenean salmonids in complete tranquility. This environment is managed by the association Gaule Louronnaise. It even has ponds for fish farming. Releases of Farios trout and brook salmon are regularly organized in the Neste du Louron river. At the Saoussas mill in Loudenvielle, learn how to fish gently in the small lake.
