Ski de fond Nistos Pyrénées

Cross-country skiing at your fingertips

From your first kilometres within the Pyrenees2vallées, you cross the village of Sarrancolin. Why go further? Discover this pretty fortified village in the Aure Valley, its medieval history, its marble tradition and its Nordic space of Nistos for cross-country skiing and much more, up to 1890m altitude.

A rich medieval past

Discover the historical heritage of Sarrancolin. First with the Prison Gate (in the picture), the only vestige of the old fortification that surrounded the village until the 18th century. This Gate was the southern entrance to the city. It provided a link with Arreau, the Aure Valley in the southwest and the Louron Valley in the southeast. The Saint-Ebons church houses exceptional furniture and superb more recent altarpieces, which are absolutely worth seeing. You will easily recognize this Romanesque church by its square bell tower overlooking the village. Sarrancolin marble is recognized throughout the world. You can admire these pretty Pyrenean stones at the Opéra Garnier, at the Château de Versailles and even in the entrance to the Empire State Building in New York! This thousand-year-old tradition was relaunched in the 1990s by the public authorities. Discover the marble quarries and the techniques used to extract them in a 1h30 guided tour. If you want to know more, visit the marble museum in Bagnères-de-Bigorre! Also visit the Sarrancolin Wool Museum, the last wool spinning mill in the Pyrenees, where you can admire machines still in operation. Discover this precious know-how for textile manufacturing.
