Gate of the valleys

The Gate of the valleys and its 19 villages are a delight, the first hours of your stay in the mountains in the heart of the Pyrénées2vallées and the Aure valley. You who are hungry for discovery and wide open spaces, rest assured, we have prepared a menu worthy of the greatest chefs. Start by visiting Arreau, the historic centre of the Aure valley, a peaceful city with medieval architecture located at the confluence of the Nestes d'Aure and the Neste du Louron rivers. Then discover the stone villages of the Aure Valley, with its unique Pyrenean atmosphere: Cadéac with its Gothic church and watchtower, the Romanesque church of Saint-Ebons, the marble tradition of Sarrancolin... To the west, very close to the Pic du Midi de Bigorre, the regional nature reserve of Aulon and its typical fauna of the Pyrenees await you for an immersion in the pastoral tradition. Enjoy magical hikes to the summit of the Arbizon (2831m) and climb the mythical passes of the Tour de France: the Aspin and the Hourquette d'Ancizan. Head east and discover the remarkable St. Lawrence Church of Jézeau on the way to Compostelle: its Romanesque architecture and richly decorated altarpiece have earned it a UNESCO and Historic Monument status.

The Villages in the Aure and Louron valleys of Pyrénées2vallées / P2V Calm and pleasure! Located at 1000 m of altitude and 2 km from Arreau, the village of Barrancoueu, is one of the most peaceful villages. It is known as a water village because of the large number of springs that gush out of the ground, one of which is ferruginous and often used for its therapeutic virtues. A small but lively village, Barrancoueu hosts many events throughout the year: flea markets, festivals, concerts, theatres. There are many walks in the vicinity, and many signposted footpaths leading to the Hourquette d'Ancizan.
